If you missed out on the Zenith El Primero Striking 10th Lightweight Tribute to the Rolling Stones that was up for grabs at the Only Watch 2015 auction late last year, Zenith has unveiled another limited edition watch honouring the Rolling Stones. Unlike the Primero of which only one was produced, a total of five Zenith Academy Christophe Colomb Tribute to The Rolling Stones are available. The watch marks the band’s first ever concert in Cuba which took place on March 25th.

This is strikingly true of the partnership established with rock music’s living legends – The Rolling Stones – that the brand with the guiding star has been accompanying on stages around the world since 2014. Thus, when the renowned English band is giving a concert in Cuba for the first time ever in their legendary career, Zenith is naturally right there beside them. A first foray onto the island for the British group, but also a first for a country which long rejected rock music that was regarded as a weapon of “American imperialism”. As a wind of openness and freedom is blowing across Cuba, this open-air concert by the rock legends is a powerful symbol that will go down in the history books. To accentuate the legendary nature of this event, the Manufacture is dedicating one of its prestigious timepieces to the stellar musicians. An exclusive five-piece limited edition of the Academy Christophe Colomb model by Zenith combines cutting-edge mechanics and top-flight artistry in a vibrant tribute to the global rock stars.
Housed in a rose gold case, the dial sports some rather distinguishing features. First is the micro-painted Union Jack, superimposed with the famous Rolling Stones logo. Then there is the dome housing the patented Gravity Control module at the 6 o’clock mark. It helps neutralize the effects of gravity to maintain timekeeping accuracy. 171 of the 308’s El Primero Calibre 8804’s parts make up this gyroscopic component.
The hours and minutes are displayed at the 12 o’clock mark. Hand-engraved Roman numerals mark the quarter hours. Seconds tick by on a sub-dial at 9 o’clock. The power reserve sits across at the 3 o’clock mark.
