After teasing it a few times, Xiaomi today officially announced the Mi Band 2 fitness tracker. It is in fact the third Mi Band (after the original Mi Band and Mi Band Pulse) in the Chinese company’s line of wearables. It improves upon its predecessors by adding a small display for the first time.
The new UV-coated OLED display will allow the Xiaomi Mi band 2 to display not only the time but also information such as steps taken, distance walked, calories burned, heart rate and more. It will also be possible to customize what content gets displayed. The capacitive button will make it easy to scroll through the information.
The Mi Band 2 will offer basic fitness and sleep tracking. The pedometer algorithms have been improved for better accuracy. It also inherits the heart rate sensor that was introduced with the Fit to capture your heart rate in real time. As other devices are increasingly doing, it will also vibrate when it detects that you have not been active for a set amount of time.
The strap has also been redesigned to better hold the main capsule while being softer and longer lasting.
As for the battery, it is now expected to last up to 20 days.
