The Sony Xperia Ear was unveiled earlier this year at Mobile World Congress along with a number of new Xperia smartphones. It is among the first in a new line of smart products that Sony will offer to give our devices the ability to “understand preferences, activities and behaviour, to provide useful and contextual information.” While Sony only said that it would launch this summer, we now know that Canada will be included in Sony’s launch.
Speaking with MobileSyrup, Don Mesa, Sony Mobile North America’s Senior Director of Marketing, confirmed that the Xperia Ear is coming to Canada sometime in “late summer.”
The Xperia Ear is single wireless ear that connects to your smartphone via NFC or Bluetooth and can act as a personal assistant. It can provide a range of information that includes everything from your upcoming events and navigation instructions to weather and the latest news. The built-in microphone also allows it to respond to a range of voice commands with its Google Now compatibility. For example, you can give it a command to initiate a call or dictate a message without ever having to reach for your smartphone.
The Sony Xperia Ear promises all-day battery life. It is also IPX2 rated.
Pricing for the Sony Xperia Ear has still not been announced.
