Samsung has begun to send out press invitations for its IFA 2016 press announcement. Set to take place on September 1st, the invitation effectively confirms that the Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch will be unveiled at the event. While the invitation does not make any mention of a smartwatch, the watch hands are a pretty obvious hint.
Recent rumours suggest that the Samsung Gear S3 will keep the round design introduced last year with the Gear S2. It is also expected to retain the rotating bezel and Tizen operating system. New features could include upgraded hardware including new sensors, including a barometer and a speedometer, and a GPS chipset (which recently appeared on the Gear Fit 2).
While the Gear S2 originally came in two variants, there could be three for the Gear S3. Samsung recently filed a trademark filing for the S3 Classic while rumours have also come up with the names Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Explorer.
Rumours that Samsung would unveil its Gear S2 smartwatch successor at IFA 2016 have been around for months now. Samsung unveiled its first round smartwatch at last year’s IFA event.
Samsung’s IFA 2016 press event will take place on September 1st. It will likely be livestreamed for those unable to make it to Berlin in person. Needless to say, EyeOnMobility will bring you all the wearables news from this year’s announcement.
