As expected, Samsung today unveiled the Gear Fit2 fitness band and the Gear IconX wireless ear buds at a press event in New York.
“Living a healthy lifestyle is a top priority for consumers to enjoy fulfilling lives. Our wearable technology can enhance existing routines and blend fitness and fun. The Gear Fit2 and Gear IconX are specialized to easily address these needs, ultimately allowing users to get more out of their fitness experiences and everyday activities,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.
As expected given all the rumours, the Samsung Gear Fit2 comes with both embedded GPS and a heart rate monitor (HRM). Its Auto Activity Tracking feature allows it to automatically identify and track a range of activities, including running, walking, cycling or utilizing a rowing machine or elliptical trainer. Data collected is synced back to S Health and as well as other select fitness applications.

The Samsung Gear IconX are wireless earbuds that can also track fitness, freeing a runner from having to bring other devices. They can track distance, speed, duration, heart rate and calories burned. The data can then be synced back to Samsung’s S Health app (and other fitness apps). In the absence of any display, the Voice Guide (with support for 15 different languages) will provide voice feedback on progress. With 4GB of onboard storage, they can also provide a standalone music listening experience.
A small trackpad on one of the earbuds allows you to control them. Gestures like swipes and taps will play or pause music, adjust volume or activate the fitness features.
The IconX earbuds can be recharged using their charging case. They will be available in three colours: black, blue and white.
The Gear Fit2 will be available beginning June 10, 2016 while the Samsung Gear IconX will follow sometime in Q3. Pricing details were not announced.
