Leaked images may have revealed Samsung’s next wearable device. According to information obtained by Tizen Cafe, the device, codenamed Triathlon during development, will be called the Samsung Gear Fit 2 and bear model number SM-R150. It is quite different from the original Samsung Gear Fit and appears to have been heavily influenced by the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch.
Along with a similar round display, it appears that the Gear Fit 2 will also sport the distinctive rotating bezel ring used to control certain functions. A heart rate monitor may also be in the cards. Unlike the smartwatch though, it will be possible to pull the Gear Fit 2 tracker from the strap and wear it as a clip-on device instead. It remains to be seen if it will use Samsung’s new all-in-one Bio-processor.
The Samsung Gear Fit 2 appears to be more focused on health and fitness tracking than the Gear S2. From the screenshots, it looks like it will measure workout repetitions, body fat and could even track water intake, reminding you to drink to avoid dehydration.
There is no word on when Samsung could announce the Gear Fit 2. With rumours flying about that it is planning to unveil the new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge very soon. Perhaps it will do so at Mobile World Congress in February and bring the Gear Fit 2 along for the ride.
