Oculus VR had promised last year that its Oculus Rift virtual headset would go up for pre-order in early 2016. The Facebook-owned company today made good on its promise. It announced that Oculus Rift pre-orders will begin on January 6th.
Pre-orders will include the headset as well as two games, EVE: Valkyrie by CCP, a first-person spacecraft game, and Lucky’s Tale by Playful, a platformer.
Missing from today’s announcement are specific shipping and pricing details. That information is expected on Wednesday when pre-orders begin. Predictions suggest that the Oculus Rift will sell for US$350 (about CA$500) or more.
Coinciding with the start of pre-orders, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey will hold a Reddit AMA the same day at 1800 Pacific Time (2100 Eastern Time).
Today’s announcement follows last week’s disappointing news that the Oculus Rift Touch controllers have been delayed to the second half of the year.
Oculus will begin to take pre-orders on January 6th at 0800 Pacific Time (1100 Eastern Time) on Oculus.com.
