Along with its new flagship Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge smartphones this week at Mobile World Congress, Samsung unveiled a number of accessories including a new fitness tracking band called the Samsung Charm.
The Samsung Charm comes in two styles, a square and slender rectangle. The former can be paired with a range of bracelets, including leather and metal ones while the latter appears to be paired to a strap of the same colour. Both strive for a fashionable design that does not instantly scream fitness bracelet as many other similar devices do.
Paired with a smartphone via Bluetooth, the Samsung Charm can provide notifications for incoming or missed calls and messages using LEDs rather than a display. It also tracks a range of daily activities including steps taken, distance traveled and calories burned. The data is synced back to Samsung’s own S Health app where it can be reviewed and matched against goals.
Because the Samsung Charm does not have a display, its small 17mAh lithium-ion battery can last as much as 18 days (albeit with LED notifications disabled). This omission along with its styling cues gives it a look closer to a piece of jewelry than a traditional wearable.
The Samsung Charm will be available in both square and slender rectangle styles. Three colours will be available: Rose Quartz, black and gold. Pricing and availability were not announced.
