Today is a day for watches with brown dials here at EyeOnMobility. Earlier today, we brought you the Zenith El Primero Chronomaster 1969 Cohiba Edition. It turns out that IWC Schaffhausen’s latest offering also features a brown dial, in this case a rich mahogany hue. The IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph Edition “Boesch” is a limited edition timepiece named in honour of Swiss boatbuilder Boesch.
“Boesch motorboats have one thing above all in common with watches from Schaffhausen: they are made with a passion for craftsmanship, and their unmistakable design makes them instantly recognizable,” is how Linus Fuchs,IWC Managing Director Switzerland, describes the partnership with Boesch.
The mahogany dial retains key Portugieser design elements such as the traditional Arabic numerals, railway-track-style chapter ring and its slender feuille hands. The Chronograph combines the hour and minute counters into a totalizer found at 12 o’clock while the white stopwatch hand measures smaller intervals. The chronograph push-buttons are fashioned like the bitts found on ship decks. The small hacking seconds can be found at the 6 o’clock mark.
The case back is equally striking. The mahogany shade makes a return in the form of an inlay made by Boesch itself. A stylized ship’s propeller is also imprinted on the inside of the glass as an additional nod to the boatmaker.
