Garmin last week unveiled the vívomove smart analogue watch, a smarter watch geared at those wanting basic fitness tracking in a fashionable wearable. This week, it unveiled the Garmin Forerunner 735XT. The GPS running watch with multisport features and wrist-based heart rate is clearly aimed at those looking for far more than basic fitness tracking. Along with offering 24/7 heart rate monitoring, it can track a range of activities including running, cycling, swimming, hiking, cross-country skiing, strength training, paddle sports and cardio.
“The Forerunner 735XT is the ultimate GPS smartwatch for athletes who want dialed-in data for training and race day,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of worldwide sales. “It offers comprehensive data for all of their activities, keeps them connected with smart features including notifications and automatic uploads to Garmin Connect, and lets them customize their device to fit their needs with Connect IQ’s free apps, data fields and more.”
The Garmin Forerunner 735XT offers much the same functionality as the 720XT, including a GPS sensor. Geared at those looking for deeper insights into their training, it offers a wide breadth of information. For example, runners can see everything from VO2 max estimate. It adds Garmin’s Elevate heart rate technology to measure heart rate at the wrist, eliminating the need for a chest strap unless you want one for even more advanced metrics metrics like stride length, ground contact time balance and vertical ratio.
Data collected by the Forerunner 735XT is synced back to the Garmin Connect Mobile app and portal, allowing you to review all your data, join online challenges to compete against friends and receive personalized Garmin Connect Insights with tips on how to reach goals, shoutouts when milestones are met and tips from experts. It also comes with the Strava Live Suffer Score app which analyzes your heart rate as you work out.
The Garmin Forerunner 735XT is now available in black and gray or midnight blue and frost blue for US$449.99. It is also available in a bundle with the HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim for US$599.99. It is not yet available in Canada.
