Garmin announces golf-specific Approach X40 activity tracker band

Garmin Approach X40Garmin today announced a new wearable dedicated to golf. The Garmini Approach X40 is an activity tracker that combines activity and fitness tracking (including heart rate monitoring) with GPS golf data to (hopefully) improve your game at any of over  40,000 golf courses across the globe.

During your game, the Approach X40 will track and record shot distances and provide distance information to the front, middle and back of each green as well as layups, doglegs and hazards like bunkers and water. Green View displays the shape of the green for each hole and allows you to manually place the pin for more accurate yardages. It also works as a digital scorecard, trackingindividual stats like fairways hit, greens in regulation and putts per round.

Data is synced back for later review and analysis. Garmin Connect lets you share your scorecard with friends as well as see all your statistics, including longest shots, average score, putts and more. Hole-by-hole analysis helps you prepare for your next game.

“We’re thrilled to combine our golf technology and activity tracking into one sleek device,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of worldwide sales. “The Approach X40 is the perfect all-in-one solution for golfers who want to know distances on the course and track wellness data without the hassle of switching between multiple devices.”

As a fitness band, the Approach X40 measures the usual: Daily steps, calories burned, distance, time of day, hours of sleep and heart rate thanks to its integrated heart monitor. It will also remind you to stay active through the day and provide the typical range of notifications, including incoming calls, text, emails, calendar reminders and social media alerts.

Available in black, white and frost blue, the Approach X40 band comes a 1-inch touchscreen  display. It is also waterproof to 50 meters.

The Garmin  Approach X40 will go on sale later this quarter. It will sell for US$249.99 (about CA$315).
