Fossil jumped into the wearables space in late 2015 with the launch of its Fossil Q line of wearables. It is now headed to this weekend’s SXSW where it will debut the newest wearable in the collection. The Fossil Q Motion is an activity tracker that also supports smart tap technology, allowing you to perform simple actions by tapping the band.
“South by Southwest has become a creative hub for innovators and is a true merger of design, music, film, and technology. These are similar values we see in our customers: they are creative curious types who are interested more than ever in the convergence of fashion and technology,” said Jill Elliott, Chief Creative Officer. “Q Motion, our latest activity tracker, is a direct response to our customers’ needs: updated and improved technology at a competitive price point, fused with innovative style and design.”
Compatible with both Android and iOS, the Fossil Q Motion not only tracks your activity and sleep but can also provide selected notifications using haptic feedback or an LED light. Smart tap technology allows you to also trigger certain actions with simple taps on the bracelet. For example, you can use taps to control your music or snap a picture from your smartphone.
Rather than requiring regular charging, it will run as long as six months thanks to a coin cell battery. It is also water resistant to depths up to 50 meters and can be customized with interchangeable straps.
Fossil acquired Misfit at the end of 2015. The Fossil Q Motion is the first to benefit from this acquisition as it shares more than a passing resemblance to the Misfit Ray.
The Fossil Q Motion fitness tracker will launch later this summer. It will sell for US$95 (about CA$125).
