Beaume & Mercier last year teamed up with the famed Carroll Shelby Company to commemorate the Shelby Cobra race car with the limited edition Capeland Shelby Cobra Collection. Earlier this year the company unveiled two new time pieces in the collection. The Beaume & Mercier Capeland Shelby Cobra 1963 and the Capeland Shelby Cobra 1963 Limited Edition Competition watches are inspired by one particular car, the Shelby Cobra 289 Sebring CSX2128, which was built to run the 1963 12 Hours of Sebring race.
The Shelby Cobra 289 Sebring CSX2128 was black with yellow racing stripes, colours that now grace the Capeland Shelby Cobra 1963. The black dial, with transparent twin horizontal racing stripes, is once again inspired by the Cobra’s historic dashboard. The asymmetrical silver chronograph sub-dials are accented with the same racing yellow colour. Finally, the dial is encircled by the tachymeter function with yellow markers so that you always know exactly how fast you are going.
The back of the case is engraved with the words “One out of 1963” in reference to both the car and the watch collection. It also bears the number 15 under which the Cobra 289 Sebring CSX2128 competed.
