Apple today released new developer betas for a number of devices. Among them is a new watchOS beta release. While the full changelog for watchOS 2.2 is not known yet, one new feature it will add is support for multiple Apple Watches. This will allow users to pair an iPhone (running iOS 9.3 which was also seeded to developers today) with more than one Apple Watch.
While owners of multiple Apple Watches are likely the minority, the new feature will allow them to more easily switch between their different watches. It will also likely help developers test their apps against different models, especially if Apple soon releases a second generation model as is rumoured.
Apple’s watchOS 2.2 will presumably also come with bug fixes and performance improvements for issues discovered since the release of watchOS 2.1 in December.
There is no word yet on when Apple will release watchOS 2.2 (and iOS 9.3) to consumers. As these were the first betas to be released for this version, we can expect a few more iterations to be released before Apple is satisfied that they are ready for everyone. As such, it will likely be at least a month or two before we have a general release.
Developers can now download watchOS 2.2 from the Apple Developer site.
