China’s ZTE unveiled its flagship Axon brand earlier this summer. Along with a number of smartphones, it also includes a smartwatch, the ZTE Axon Watch. While the company announced pricing, it did not reveal exactly when it would launch. It remedied that yesterday, announcing that the ZTE Axon Watch will go on sale in China on October 27th.

- Operating system: Tencent OS
- Cellular connectivity: None
- Other connectivity: Bluetooth 4.1
- Display: 1.4-inch with Gorilla Glass with sapphire coating
- RAM: 512MB
- Internal storage: 4GB
- Battery: 300mAh
- Weight: 49 grams
- Other: Water and dust resistant (IP 67 rating)
With a 42mm dial diameter and a case measuring 11.5 millimeters in thickness, the ZTE Axon Watch is likely to appeal more to men then to women.
The Tencent TOS+ operating system was developed by Tencent, the company behind the popular WeChat platform. It is based on the open-source version of Android and supports the usual smartwatch functions including fitness and health monitoring and notifications from various apps including WeChat of course.
At this point, it appears unlikely that ZTE will bring the Axon Watch to markets outside of China. To do so, it would likely need to make some adaptations for international markets, including probably replacing the Tencent operating system with another (Android Wear is a plausible option).
The ZTE Axon Watch will go on sale in China on October 27th through ZTE’s own MyZTE store.
