As much as we would like to think that wearable technology is a relatively new phenomenon, inventions allowing us to take our favourite technology with us date back further than we many would guess. Case in point: An invention in 1922 combined a radio with a top hat to let you listen to your favourite radio shows on your daily jaunts around town.
As you can see, the radio itself fit neatly into the upper portion of the hat. The circular antenna would also neatly fit into the hat. As for the headphones, they don’t look very different from those that so many wear these days on their daily commutes.
Those looking to use their top hat radios with in-ear headphones would have to wait until 1926 for another enterprising inventor to come up with more discrete headphones.
Could top hats make a return to fashion in the 21st century as accessories sporting the latest in wearable technology?
