Apple today released a new firmware update for the Apple Watch. While there are no new major features, watchOS 2.1 does include a number of language enhancements as well as a number of bug fixes. It is the second update to be offered since Apple released watchOS 2.0 back in September after announcing it at WWDC 2015.
Language support now includes Arabic (including Siri support), Czech, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Malay, Portuguese, and Vietnamese. watchOS 2.1 also adds support for a Right-to-Left user interface needed for languages such as Arabic. A new watch face complication for Islamic and Hebrew calendars has also been added.
A number of bugs have also been fixed with the release. Among these are and issue that prevented some events from getting updating the calendar complication, another that prevented third-party applications from launching and one where the time sometimes was not displayed while in power reserve mode.
The watchOS 2.1 update weighs in at just under 60MB. It can be downloaded using the Apple Watch app by selecting General > Software Update. There are a couple of requirements: Your iPhone must be running iOS 9.2 which Apple also released today and your battery must be actively charging while on Wi-Fi and already be at 50% or more.
If Apple’s release of watchOS 2.1 and iOS 9.2 is not enough for you, Apple also released tvOS 9.1 for the 4th generation Apple TV.
