TAG Heuer today revealed new details about availability and pricing of its upcoming smartwatch. Company CEO Jean-Claude Biver yesterday told Bloomberg that it will go on sale as early as October or November for about US$1,400. That price is somewhat more than initially expected but still far less than Apple is asking for its Apple Watch Edition.
Biver also revealed that the TAG Heuer smartwatch will have a battery life of about 40 hours. This compares favourably with other Android Wear smartwatches and the Apple Watch which has a battery designed to offer about 18 hours of life.
The TAG Heuer smartwatch will be based on the new TAG Heuer Carrera – Heuer 01 (pictured above). It will be powered by Android Wear and will likely use a low-power Intel processor thanks to the company’s new partnership with Google and Intel. It is also expected to be upgradeable although TAG Heuer has not explained exactly how this will work.
Biver said that he hopes that Apple sells “millions and millions and millions” of its Apple Watch. “The more they sell the more a few people will want something different and come to TAG Heuer,” he explained.
Unfortunately, that’s about all we know about the smartwatch so far. With some time to go before it launches, TAG Heuer may well continue to slowly release details. If it does, we’ll be sure to bring them to you.
