Tag Heuer confirmed plans to release a smartwatch back in September 2014. While rumours that it would unveil this device at CES 2015 did not pan out, Pocket-lint reports that it confirmed earlier this week that it will make a Tag Heuer smartwatch announcement at Baselworld 2015.
Tag Heuer will hold a press event on March 19th, the day Baselworld kicks off, at 1300 GMT (0900 ET / 0600 PT). Unnamed executives from Silicon Valley are expected to participate in the announcement. While the company has not revealed who these executives might be, they are expected to be Google and Intel. What each company would bring remains to be seen but Google would likely participate on the software side – Could we see an Android Wear powered Tag Heuer watch? – and Intel on the hardware side.
LVMH’s Jean-Claude Biver recently confirmed in an interview that Tag Heuer (which is owned by LVMH) would soon announce the new partnerships that the company has struck to develop this smartwatch. An announcement at Baselworld certainly fits that timeline.
As for specifics about the Tag Heuer smartwatch, all we know so far from Biver is that it will not only provide the usual notifications and health monitoring but will also offer brand-specific functionality that will leverage partnerships with other companies.
All will be revealed in only a few more hours.
