The Samsung Gear S2 is the first in the line of Gear smartwatches to be compatible with more than just the company’s own smartphones. Its latest smartwatch works with a range of smartphones running Android 4.4 or higher and with at least 1.5GB of RAM. It turns out that Samsung’s compatibility options don’t stop there. Much as Google recently did with Android Wear, the South Korean company is working on adding the Apple iPhone to the list of devices compatible with the Gear S2.
An official Samsung spokesperson told Digital Spy that the company is looking to make its latest smartwatch compatible with Apple’s iOS platform. “We are looking at possibilities to open it up to iOS. Because we opened it up to Android, we are looking at this.” the spokesperson explained.
Should Samsung succeed in making the Gear S2 compatible with the iPhone, it will be a first for the company as its smartwatches have never been compatible with the Apple iPhone.
Unfortunately, it’s not clear when this will happen. Specific timeline details were not revealed so it might yet be a while before we hear more about this unless new rumours shed more light on this.
