Samsung may once again borrow a page from Apple’s marketing playbook when it launches its round-faced Samsung Gear A smartwatch later this year. SamMobile has learned that the South Korean company is looking to partner with a number of artists and fashion houses to offer custom watch bands alongside the smartwatch.
Along with Miami-based pop-up artist Romero Britto, Samsung is reportedly looking to have brands like Z Zegna, Swarovski, Tech21, Anymode and Incipio all offer watch bands.Samsung has worked with some of these in the past. For example, it partnered with Swarovski to offer the Swarovski Gear S Strap (pictured above), a blinged-up version of the Samsung Gear S.
It remains to be seen if Samsung and its partners will offer high-end versions of the Samsung Gear A as Apple does with its Apple Watch Edition line. It could also choose to offer limited edition variants with each partner.
The Samsung Gear A is expected to launch in Q3 2015. It could be announced at CTIA 2015 or IFA 2015 where Samsung has traditionally unveiled its portfolio of devices for the upcoming holiday season.
