Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch teased at Galaxy Unpacked 2015

Samsung GearS2 teaserAs expected, Samsung today unveiled the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+ at its Galaxy Unpacked 2015 press event. As recent rumours hinted, the company did not formally announce any new wearables but that did not stop it from teasing the audience by showing off its first round smartwatch. Known so far as the Samsung Gear A or Samsung Orbis, the company today revealed that it will launch as the Samsung Gear S2.

The teaser reconfirms that the Gear S2 will be round, something we’ve now known for a while. It also gives us a glimpse at how Samsung will use the oft-rumoured rotating bezel ring to control certain functions. One of the watch faces confirmed that the watch will come with a heart beat sensor (or will support integration with one). Interestingly, there does not appear to be a digital crown. Our suspicion is that the renders shown today simply do not reveal everything and that Samsung is holding a few things back for the actual announcement.

Samsung also confirmed that it will formally introduce the Samsung Gear S2 next month at an event set for September 3rd at IFA 2015.
