When Samsung unveiled the new Gear S2 and Gear S2 classic smartwatches, it unveiled a 3G-enabled variant of the former. The aptly-called Samsung Gear S2 3G comes with an integrated e-SIM with voice support. While the Gear S2 will launch across a range of global markets, including Canada and the U.S. on October 2nd, the Gear S2 3G will launch in only two markets.
Speaking with Wareable, Conor Pierce, Samsung UK VP for Mobile, revealed that the initial rollout for the 3G-enabled model will be limited to the U.S. and South Korea. Connor explained that the e-SIM (electronic SIM) standard was more widely supported in these two markets than in most others, suggesting that Samsung could expand availability as support for the relatively new standard grows.
