Samsung Gear Live pulled from Google Store

Samsung GearLiveThe Samsung Gear Live was among the first Android Wear watches to be unveiled. It was announced alongside the Moto 360 and LG G Watch at Google I/O 2014. Nearly a year later, it is following in the footsteps of the LG G Watch and is headed into the sunset. It is now listed as “no longer available for purchase” on the Google Store.

The Samsung Gear Live’s unavailability on the Google Store extends beyond Canada and the U.S. It has also been removed in Australia, France, India, Japan and Spain to name only a few other countries.

Its likely successor has been the topic of rumours for some time now. Known as Project Orbis and the Samsung Gear A, it is expected to be Samsung’s first smartwatch with a round display. It should also incorporate features like a rotating bezel to control certain functions, a 1.18-inch display with a resolution of 360 by 360 pixels, a host of sensors and wireless charging.

A number of Android Wear smartwatches are still available if you’re still looking for one. These include the ASUS ZenWatch, the new LG Watch Urbane, the LG Watch R, Motorola’s Moto 360 and the Sony SmartWatch 3. With Google I/O 2015 just around the corner, it may not be much longer before new models, perhaps including a new Moto 360, will be announced.
