While Samsung has not confirmed that it is working on a round smartwatch, rumours of such a device, codenamed Samsung Orbis, have been around for some time now. At least one rumour suggested that Samsung would unveil it as the Samsung Gear A at CTIA 2015 which will take place in early September. SamMobile has learned that the company is now looking at launching it alongside the Galaxy Note 5 at IFA 2015 which will take place in Berlin, Germany, a few days earlier.
The report adds that Samsung was in fact looking at launching the Gear A earlier than that. It appears that it once considered a launch in the first half of the year but has now decided for the later launch to align this latest launch with its other product launches and to give time for the the limelight garnered so far by the Apple Watch to die down a bit.
Samsung also promised a “a more perfect product” for its next smartwatch. With features such as a rotating bezel to control certain functions, wireless charging, gesture controls and possibly even a camera. It could also function as a keychain, necklace or armband.
An announcement at IFA 2015 certainly is far more plausible than one at CTIA 2015. The former event is one where Samsung has introduced a long line of products including its Galaxy Note phablets and other products. In fact, the first Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch was unveiled alongside the Galaxy Note 3 at IFA 2013.
