Mondaine unveiled the Mondaine Helvetica No 1 Smart, its first smartwatch, back in February. Billed as the “first Swiss-made smartwatch,” it is now available for pre-order directly from Mondaine in both Canada and the U.S. This first edition is limited to 1957 watches as a nod to the year Helvetica was created.
This limited edition version features a number of touches not found on the model first unveiled back in February. These include an engraved “1 of 1957” on the side of the case, red typographic details on the sub-dial (displaying the date, activity and sleep tracking) and accenting on the back of the case.
The smartwatch features of the Mondaine Helvetica No 1 Smart are provided by the Manufacture Modules Technologies’ (MMT) Horological Smartwatch Open Platform. The MotionX and Sleeptracker sensors provide activity tracking with progress against goals presented on the sub-dial at six o’clock and sleep monitoring. Specific information being tracked includes daily steps, calories burned and total distance as well as sleep monitoring, sleep cycle alarms and get-active alerts. It also offers automatic time alignment, a useful feature that will automatically adjust the time as you cross time zones. An accompanying app (Android 4.4+ or iOS 8+) provides detailed reports as well as adaptive coaching based on the user’s activity.
When first announced, Mondaine said it expected the Mondaine Helvetica No 1 Smart would sell for about CHF850 (about US$890 or CA$1150). With pre-orders now open, we have official pricing. It sells for US$950 (about CA$1240 or CHF$910) but the company is offering a U$100 discount until September 6th bringing the price down to US$850 (about CA$1550 or CHF 815) for now.
Shipments are expected to begin at the end of August.
