The Hermès In The Pocket watch traces its roots back to 1912. The unusual watch allowed Jacqueline Hermès to wear her pocket watch on her wrist in a leather holder, also known as “porte-oignon,” while she rode her horses. The strap offered both convenience and complete protection for the watch. Hermès reintroduced the “In the Pocket” watch back in 2012 as an homage to the original. A unique variation of this unique watch will go up for auction later this year at the Only Watch 2015 auction.
The Only Watch edition of the watch features a reinterpreted and simpler dial design. Numerals have been pared down for clarity and the minute and seconds tracks are finished in the emblematic H red of the House of Hermès. They also match nicely with the H red Swift calfskin holster that turns the 40mm pocket watch into a 49mm wrist watch. The dial also sports a seconds sub-dial at the three o’clock mark.
