The next Samsung Unpacked event may take place earlier than most had expected. Traditionally set to coincide with the IFA consumer electronics trade show in early September, sources have told SamMobile that this year’s event will take place on August 12th.
The event will shine the spotlight on two new Samsung smartphones, the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge Plus. Also on tap for the event is the official launch of Samsung Pay with the U.S. as the likely first market.
Samsung unveiled the original Samsung Galaxy Gear back at IFA 2013 ‘s Samsung Unpacked 2013 Episode 2 event alongside the Galaxy Note 3. Last year, the company did not wait for IFA to roll around and unveiled the Samsung Gear S smartwatch a few days ahead of the event. Recent rumours hinted that Samsung would unveil its next smartwatch, ruoured to be called the Samsung Gear A, alongside the Galaxy Note 5. If they hold up, we may now see the company’s first smartwatch with a circular display (which could look something like the concept below) earlier than expected.
It’s not the first time that we’ve heard that Samsung would move up the launch of the Galaxy Note 5. Such rumours surfaced as far back as May, suggesting that the move was partly motivated by Samsung’s desire to beat the next iPhone to market.
The report adds that both the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge Plus will go on sale on August 21st. Should the Gear A be unveiled alongside, perhaps it will go on sale at the same time.
