Huawei impressed more than one when it unveiled the Huawei Watch back at Mobile World Congress 2015. It has since established itself among the best of the current generation of Android Wear smartwatches. One of the complaints commonly leveled has to do with its dimensions. With a case that measures 42 millimeters in diameter and 11.3 millimeters in thickness, it is not the smallest watch out there. 9to5Google has now learned that Huawei is planning to unveil at least one new variant at CES 2016.
Little is known about this new model but it will apparently be a “made-for-women version.” Huawei is reportedly looking at introducing more feminine-looking bands as well as modifying the case slightly make it more rounded and elegant. New watch faces and perhaps a new gold-colour option could also be in the cards. It’s unclear whether we will see a smaller model though.
The move would not be unprecedented. The second generation Moto 360 smartwatch comes in two sizes, albeit a 42mm model and a larger 46mm model. Motorola also offers different band sizes in an effort to make its Moto 360 more appealing to women.
The report adds that Huawei has also begun work on a second generation smartwatch. It is currently scheduled to launch in the second half of 2016. Details are still light but a cellular-enabled version could be offered this time around. With Android Wear now supporting cellular connectivity, such a variant is not so far-fetched.
