More Samsung Orbis smartwatch features revealed?

Samsung smartwatch ring interfaceDespite expectations that Samsung would unveil a new smartwatch at MWC 2015 alongside the new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, no such device was announced at the event. Mobile marketing executive vice president Young-hee Lee later confirmed that the company was working on “a more perfect product.” This is widely expected to be the oft-rumoured Samsung Orbis, a round smartwatch with rotating bezel ring. New details have come to light, giving us further hints as to the features it could offer.

Much has been written about the rotating bezel but it does not appear to be the watch’s only unique feature. Others are said to include gesture controls and the return of a camera. While the latter will likely allow for some quick snaps, it will also be used to identify objects and images such as barcodes to enable purchases through Samsung Pay, the company’s newly announced mobile payment system.

It also appears that the Samsung Orbis will be more than just a smartwatch. Samsung is also looking to have it work as a keychain, necklace or armband. This suggests that users will be able to detach the main watch module from the wrist band and pop it into other accessories.

As for a launch date, it appears that Samsung is looking at unveiling the Samsung Orbis at CTIA 2015 in September.
