LG announced today that its premium LG Watch Urbane went on sale today in its home country of South Korea. A global rollout is set to follow quickly. By the end of the month, it will be available through the new Google Store in Canada and the U.S. as well as Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Spain and the United Kingdom.
“The LG Watch Urbane is the third Android Wear device introduced by LG in the past year which demonstrates our commitment to this platform,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “More importantly, LG Watch Urbane is a perfect example that Android Wear watches can be functional and beautiful and a useful accessory that complements any wardrobe. No one would mistake LG Watch Urbane for a computer on your wrist.”
LG also announced two new features that will be unique to the LG Watch Urbane. LG Call lets the user see recent calls and favourite contact information from the smartphone to dial out directly from the watch. LG Pulse enhances health monitoring by measuring the wearer’s heart rate every second during exercise. At the end of the workout, LG Pulse will provide the average heart rate and display a heart rate graph on LG Health.
The LG Watch Urbane will also be one of the few Android Wear smartwatches that will be able to to take advantage of the new Wi-Fi feature coming to the wearables OS in the latest update. It will make it easier to use it without having to have a paired smartphone in Bluetooth range.

LG today did not announce the pricing of the LG Watch Urbane, promising only that “price and additional purchase details will be announced locally at the time of availability.” It is expected to cost around US$275 to US$350 (about CA$350 to CA$400).
