The first details of what could be the successor to the LG Watch Urbane (pictured above) have emerged. According to information obtained by Phandroid, it is codenamed Nemo.
The report indicates that LG will continue to use Android Wear with the LG Nemo. In a bid to distinguish it from its competition, it will sport a display with a resolution of 480 by 480 pixels. It would be the highest resolution display seen on an Android Wear device to date. Assuming the LG Nemo would use a 1.3-inch display like the LG Watch Urbane, it would boast a pixel density between 340 and 400 PPI. In comparison, the LG Watch Urbane’s display has a pixel density of 245 PPI.
With Google so far keeping a tight rein on Android Wear, manufacturers are left with hardware design and specifications as the only way to distinguish their devices from those of their competitors. Should the LG Nemo come with a display that would be nearly indistinguishable from that of a traditional watch, it could have a real advantage over other smartwatches. At the same time, LG will need to ensure that it does not compromise battery life with such a display.
There is no word yet on when LG plans on releasing the LG Nemo.
