TomTom today unveiled a new sports watch that will make it easier to leave your smartphone behind when you’re working out. Announced today at IFA 2015, the TomTom Spark GPS Fitness Watch comes with an integrated music player and enough onboard storage for up to 500 songs. Throw in support for a wide range of Bluetooth headphones and you can also do away with annoying headphone wires.
“We know that music plays an important role when it comes to motivating and improving sports performance, but relying on a smartphone is all too often an uncomfortable experience,” says Corinne Vigreux, Managing Director, TomTom. “The unique combination of an integrated music player, built-in heart rate monitor, 24/7 activity tracking, multi-sport functionality and GPS in TomTom Spark makes it easier than ever for people to get more from their workout, and improve their overall fitness level.”
With a range of sensors that includes a heart rate monitor and GPS, the TomTom Spark GPS Fitness Watch tracks everything from steps, active minutes and heart rate to distance covered and calories burned on a 24/7 basis. The multi-sport mode can track a range of indoor and outdoor activities including running, cycling, swimming, treadmill and gym workouts. Stats can then be uploaded wirelessly to multiple platforms including TomTom MySports, RunKeeper, Nike+ and more.
TomTom will in fact offer a range of TomTom Spark GPS watches, ranging from the entry level TomTom Spark GPS Fitness Watch to the TomTom Spark Cardio + Music GPS Fitness Watch. The latter will sell for €249 (about US$280 or CA$370).
