Specific details may be slim but Huawei gave the media a glimpse into 2015 product roadmap earlier today at its headquarters in China. Not only will the company expand its device portfolio to include new smartphones and tablets but it plans on offering a number of wearables including its first Android Wear smartwatch.
Huawei will place particular focus on “premium” as the company seeks to “consolidate leadership in mid-to-high end markets.” On the Huawei wearables side, that strategy will include a new fitness device platform “highlighted by an innovative flagship smartbrand and smartwatch.” Little is known about these new devices but a presentation slide suggests that the Huawei smartwatch will feature a round face while the smartband will be available in a range of colours (like last year’s Huawei TalkBand B1).
Similarly, little is known at this point about the company’s new fitness platform. Shao Yang, CMO of devices at Huawei would only say, “Different is very important. We are not trying to bring something similar.”
Huawei will hold a press event on March 1. Given that its first wearables were announced at MWC last year, there is a good chance that it will unveil its new smartwatch and fitness band at MWC 2015.
