Hannspree is the latest device manufacturer to announce a smartwatch. But unlike many of its competitors, it is not aiming for the high-end of the market. The Hannspree SportWatch is now available in the U.K. for only £30 (about CA$60 or US$45).
Needless to say, that price means that it will not be as full-featured as more expensive smartwatches. At the same time, it offers enough to functionality to allow someone to grab a smartwatch at a fraction of the cost of most alternatives.
Among the included features are both an activity (step counting, calories burned and distance travelled) and sleep tracker, message notifications when paired to a smartphone (both Android and iOS are supported) and it can function as an alarm clock.
Hannspree SportWatch specifications:
- Processor: 16GHz ARM Cortex M0
- Operating system: Proprietary
- Cellular connectivity: None
- Other connectivity: Bluetooth 4.0
- Display: 0.68-inch OLED
- Sensors: Pedometer, accelerometer
- Battery: 50mAh
- Colours: Black with black and blue wristbands and necklace bands
- Other: Splash resistant
Despite having only a 50mAh battery, the Hannspree SportWatch promises battery life of between 5 and 8 days. The company’s choice of a smaller 0.68-inch display probably plays a significant role in extending that battery life (and keeping cost down).
The Hannspree SportWatch does not even have to be worn as a watch. A necklace band is also included, allowing you to quickly convert it to a necklace when you don’t feel like wearing a watch.
The Hannspree SportWatch is available in Europe. There is no word yet on whether it will make its way to North America.
