As rumours suggested earlier this month, Google will hold its next press event on September 29th. While the invitation itself reveals little about what Google plans to announce, the invitation to “join us for some tasty new treats and much s’more” suggests that it will be focused on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The logical conclusion is that Google will unveil its latest Nexus smartphones.
Rumours point to Google unveiling two new smartphones. The LG-built Nexus 5X is expected to be a “smaller” model with a 5.2-inch display while Huawei-built Nexus 6P will be larger 5.7-inch phablet. Needless to say, both will the first devices to run the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. Both are also expected to come with a fingerprint sensor an Type-C USB connectors.
Also on tap according to more recent rumours is a new Chromecast device and a new Chromecast Audio accessory that would turn regular audio devices into network-enabled ones that would work as a multi-room audio system.
Unfortunately, nothing to date suggests that we will see Google unveil a Nexus smarwatch. It looks like Google is more than happy to leave that market to its hardware partners.
Google’s September 29th will take place in San Francisco. The event kicks off at 0900 PT (1200 ET) and promises “hands-on time” afterwards. We’ll bring you all the details, especially if there are any developments on the Android Wear side of things.
