While much of our attention is focused on the upcoming MWC 2015 and the expected rash of wearables announcements, we’re also casting our gaze a bit further at BaselWorld 2015 to see what the world of high-end watches has in store for us.
Not waiting for the late March event, Glashütte Original this week announced two 2015 updates for both their PanoReserve and PanoMaticLunar watches. Both will be offered in a combination of red gold case and matte “mysterious black” dial or polished stainless steel case with “intense blue” dial.
The red gold models come with a choice of either a matte black Louisiana Alligator leather strap or a Louisiana Alligator nubuck leather strap. The blue ones are instead paired with either a dark blue calf’s leather or Louisiana Alligator nubuck leather strap.
Both new watches retain the Pano line’s of off-center dial design inspired by the “Golden Ratio” – the legendary law of aesthetic harmony.
The two Pano models from Glashütte Original give prominence to the clear, pure design with its off-centre placement of hour and minute hands and small seconds display.
This is evident from a first glance at the PanoMaticLunar models, which present the characteristic off-centre displays in a well thought out spatial arrangement. The areas for hour/minute indicators and the small seconds display lie on a vertical axis within the left half of the dial, while the Panorama Date and the splendid moon phase display are positioned at the lower and upper right, respectively.
The PanoMaticLunar model uses a Calibre 90-02 mechanical automatic movement with 47 jewels and a 42-hour power reserve whereas the PanoReserve relies on the manual winding Calibre 65-01 with 42 hour power reserve and 48 jewels. Both movements are built at the company’s own dial manufactory, Deutsche Zifferblatt Manufaktur (DZM) in Pforzheim.
Like current models, the display on both new Pano models sports hour and minute (off-centre), small second (off-centre), second stop, Panorama Date dials as well as a power reserve display on the PanoReserve and a moon phase display on the PanoMatic Lunar. The case on both measures 40 millimeters.
Pricing and specific availability details for the new Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar and PanoReserve have not been announced yet. With BaselWorld less than a month away, it will likely not be too long before we have this information.
