Fitbit yesterday announced that it has added outdoor bike tracking to its Fitbit Surge. Using GPS and other sensors to track everything from distance, duration, average speed, heart rate, calories burned and the time. The data is also synced back to the Fitbit app dashoard where routes, speed and elevation details can also be looked at.
“Our users are passionate about fitness and have consistently requested a way to track their outdoor cycling activity. We are delivering this feature on Fitbit Surge for active consumers looking to track and better understand performance during rides, in addition to their other workouts,” said Tim Roberts, VP of Interactive, Fitbit. “Our goal is to provide users with the tools it takes to track their exercise and reward them for doing the activities they love to do most – like biking and running.”
Fitbit also announced Multi-Tracker Support which will allow a user to use different Fitbit trackers on a single account. It will allow users to switch trackers depending on purpose. For example, a user could go to work with a Fitbit One and then switch to a Fitbit Surge for a run before switching to a Tory Burch for Fitbit when going out. Fitbit will automatically detect the switches without the user having to do anything more than switch devices.
Android and iOS Fitbit Surge bike-tracking will be deployed to all Fitbit Surge user by next month in North America. Global availability will follow soon after.
