Tag Heuer continues to slowly reveal more information about its upcoming smartwatch. In an interview with Wareable, Tag Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver revealed that the company’s first smartwatch will be known as the Tag Heuer Carrerra Wearable 01.
Speaking about the differences between “Intel Inside” and “Swiss Made” labels, Biver said, “There is no other choice for Tag Heuer than to have all its DNA, all its watchmaking emotion and flair into the connected watch. Somehow, one should not see from a certain distance the difference between a Carrera Heuer 01 and a Carrera Wearable 01”
The name certainly makes sense given that the Tag Heuer smartwatch will be based on the new TAG Heuer Carrera – Heuer 01 (pictured above). At the same time, it could also be a working name until the company settles on an official name for the unveiling later this year.
First announced at BaselWorld 2015, the Tag Heuer Carrera Wearable 01 will be developed in cooperation with Intel and Google. While specifications have not been revealed yet, it will powered by Android Wear and will likely use a low-power Intel processor. It is also expected to be ugpradeable. While Tag Heuer has yet to provide details on how this will work, we expect that some of the components will be housed in a replaceable module that will be swappable either by the wearer themselves or through a service provider. We also know that it will offer about 40 hours of battery life.
The Tag Heuer Carrera Wearable 01 is expected to launch as early as October or November for about US$1,400.
