Did you know that the upcoming Apple Watch is not the company’s first watch? Apple dabbled with watches as far back as 1995. Granted, technology 20 years back was not quite what it now is and the first Apple watch cannot be called a smartwatch by any stretch of the imagination. But it certainly was able to tell the time in Apple’s own inimitable style.
The 1995 Apple watch features a design aesthetic reminiscent of the Apple of the day. A bright blue bezel encircles the watch face which sports the multi-hued Apple logo of the day. The quirky design carries through all the way into the watch hands, including the squiggly seconds hand. The rubber wristband was embossed with the Mac OS logo.
Unlike the upcoming Apple Watch, Apple did not sell the original watch but gave it away as an incentive to customers who upgraded to System 7.5. Alternatively, customers could choose a free copy of the control panel manager Conflict Catcher 3 software.
Limited quantities of the watch went on sale back in December after being held in storage for two decades by a former Apple distributor. Needless to say, as with nearly any Apple product, they quickly sold out.
The new Apple Watch is expected to go on sale in the coming months. Unlike the first model, it will offer a range of features, including notifications and the Activity app to track your activities and help motivate you to be more active.
