Watch it Made is an educational program offered in the UK that aims to show children between 10 and 14 years how science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects are used to build a watch. The children get to build their own watch by choosing a variety of components including a dial image, style of numbering and colour of the watch case and strap. They see how the components are manufactured and they put their watch together. To support the expansion of the program, Watch it Made today launched a Kickstarter project that will allow you to design your own watch in much the same way.
The funds raised by the project will help Florian Caroff and Armand Didier, the company’s co-founders, support their program by launching a commercial venture offering the same customization service at pop up stores around the world.
“The most rewarding part of our work is seeing the children smile. I believe we can now take the happiness this brings and spread it to our customers. Armand and I are very passionate about developing the idea of “LOOK GOOD. DO GOOD.” This is our understanding of a fair business.” explains Caroff.
This first commercially available collection offers a choice of 13 different dials, 5 cases, 10 straps and 4 sets of hands. In all, some 2,600 different permutations are possible. Engraving a name or short message on the back can further personalize your watch. For the Kickstarter campaign, you will design your watch and Watch It Made will assemble your watch for you.
Watch it Made is looking to raise 25,000 (about US$28,000 or CA$34,000). An early bird tier offering a Watch It Made watch for £39 (about £40 off the retail price) is nearly gone already!
