Samsung’s latest smartwatch, the Gear S2, is the company’s first to adopt a round display. It has just started to reach customers but designer Jermaine Smit already sees more round designs in the company’s future. His Samsung Gear S4 concept sports a very similar round design, including the innovative rotating bezel, and adds two very cool features: a see-through body and a flip up second display.
To accomplish the see-through design, Samsung would have to move the battery and other internals such as the processor and memory to the outside of the case. To support sensors such as the heart rate monitor, a slim metal column runs in the middle to ensure that the sensor operation is not compromised.
The Gear S4 also sports two dials. It would normally only use one but should the need arise, you would be able to flip up the display, revealing a second one below. And just like that you would have a dual-display smartwatch. The flip-up display looks incredibly thin and fragile but future flexible technology may hold the solution to making such a design work.
A short video gives us an all-too-short glimpse at the Samsung Gear S4:

It also appears that the large futuristic-looking lugs could be used to store some of the internals. They also look sharp enough to catch or scratch things.
While the Samsung Gear S4 may be implausible today, advances in the next few years could allow it to become a reality in a few short years.

Here’s hoping that more concept images and videos of the Samsung Gear S4 are coming soon to give us a better look at this smartwatch concept. It would be interesting to see how it would look when wrapped around one’s wrist.
