At its pinnacle, yacht racing is a highly technical and very expensive sport. Research and development runs in the tens of millions, all to shave mere seconds from a race. Just ass important are the skilled crews that execute the complex maneuvers to keep the boat running at peak efficiency. Communication and access to information are key and this is where the Raymarine Crew Band concept by Julius Meriläinen comes in.
This wearable is designed to provide the crew up to date on a range of information to allow them to make adjustments as quickly as conditions change during a run. Linked either through a smartphone or via the yacht’s Wi-Fi to the main Raymarine server, it offers information such as speed, wind and depth at a glance.
The Raymarine Crew Band comes with two dual LCD displays that operate independently. An interactive control button allows the user to change the data shown on either display. Needless to say, the main unit is waterproof up to 10 ATM (100 meters).
The rubberized bands are available in a range of sizes to fit each crew member as well as a range of colours to match the crew’s colours.
The 35th America’s Cup is set to take place in 2017. We’ll have to see if the crews all sport Raymarine Crew Bands for the races.
