Today’s concept device blends the best of smartwatches and fitness bands into a single device. Inspired by the Nike Mercurial Vapor football boot, the Nike Cyclone is a watch “specialized in exercise management.”
A rather unique design with an angled display makes it easier to see information at a glance. A range of sensors and pulse meter give you real-time information about your training and health. Among the data collected is the total distance travelled, your average speed and total calories burned. It would presumably also connect to the Nike+ app ecosystem so that more detailed information can be reviewed at a later point on a mobile device or a PC.
The Nike Cyclone also sports wireless connectivity, keeping you connected so that you don’t miss any important messages that might come in during your workout without having to bring your smartphone. Bluetooth connectivity should also enable it to connect to other mobile devices as well as accessories such as wireless headphones.
The Android icon in the notification bar suggests that the Nike Cyclone is likely powered by some kind of forked version of Android rather than Android Wear.
It would also presumably be at least water-resistant and dust-proof and come in a range of colours.
It’s unlikely that we will see the Nike Cyclone or a similar device come to market any time soon. Nike announced last year that it would stop making wearable devices to focus on fitness and athletic software and its Nike+ app ecosystem.
