ASUS VivoWatch to be first Windows smartwatch?

ASUS VivoWatch USPTO filing

ASUS has already announced plans to launch at least three wearables later this year. CEO Jerry Shen revealed that two “wristband-like” devices and a successor to the ASUS ZenWatch are planned. Now comes evidence that ASUS may have at least one more smartwatch in the works. The company filed a trademark filing on January 29th 2015 for a new device called the ASUS VivoWatch.

Based on the filing’s description, the ASUS VivoWatch will perform the usual range of smartwatch functions, including offering notifications for text messages, emails, calendar events and other alerts. A variety of sensors will also likely help it track various activities and health information.

The name of this new device suggests that it will be powered by Windows. Whereas the ZenWatch uses Android Wear, ASUS has so far used its Vivo brand to identify Windows tablets and PCs. It’s logical to assume that it will continue to do so.

A trademark filing in itself is not a guarantee that ASUS is planning to launch such a device. But when the same term appears on its own website, it certainly becomes a likelier scenario.

ASUS VivoWatch mention

Do you think that Microsoft will brings Windows to mobile devices like smartwatches? It promised to make Windows 10 more device agnostic and the ASUS VivoWatch could be part of that vision.
