Apple’s latest press event took place earlier today. While the main attractions were the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus as well as the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro and a completely redsigned Apple TV, the company also had some Apple Watch news to share.
The Apple Watch Sport collection today grew to include new yellow and rose gold anodized aluminium models so that you can better coordinate your Apple Watch with your iPhone. Both will be available in both 42mm and 38mm configurations with pricing in line with that of the existing Sport models (starting at US$399 and US$349 respectively).
Apple also retooled its Apple Watch lineup to broaden the selection. Along with the new case colours, it introduced new band colours. There a number of new Sport Band colours as well as new two-toned Classic Buckle straps in black or saddle brown.
Continuing its push into the luxury space, Apple is partnering with Hermès to offer new models that will sport unique bands and exclusive watch face. The stainless steel Apple Watch will be paired with “finely crafted leather bands in distinctive styles from Hermès, including the Single Tour, Double Tour and Cuff, while respecting the design and functionality of the Apple Watch.”
“Apple and Hermès make very different products, but they reflect the deep appreciation of quality design,” said Jonathan Ive, Apple’s chief design officer. “Both companies are motivated by a sincere pursuit of excellence and the desire to create something that is not compromised. Apple Watch Hermès is a true testament to that belief.”
Prices start at US$1,100 and US$1,150 respectively for the 38mm and 42mm Apple Watch. They top out at US$1,500 for the 42 mm stainless steel case with the Cuff.
Apple will also offer a new (PRODUCT)RED Apple Watch with a stainless steel case and a (PRODUCT)RED Sport Band. A portion of the proceeds of this model will go to the Global Fund to fight AIDS.
