Rumours back in July suggested that Apple was considering introducing a cheaper version of its gold Apple Watch. Rather than a solid 18K gold case and a starting price of US$10,000 (CA$13,000) as found on the Apple Watch Edition (pictured above), the new model would sport a gold-plated version of the aluminium case. The Wall Street Journal now reports that Apple will unveil a number of new metal finishes for the Apple Watch at its September 9th event.
The main attractions of the event should be the new Apple iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus models. Along with hardware upgrades such as new A9 processor, more RAM, Force Touch input and improved cameras, Apple is expected to unveil a new rose-gold colour option that would go well with the rose-gold Apple Watch and possibly a new plated-rose-gold option.
There is no word on how much this new gold-plated Apple Watch would cost. One things is sure: Expect it to cost more than the entry-level Apple Watch Sport which starts at US$349 (CA$449).
The report adds that Apple will unveil the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus as well as a revamped and more expensive Apple TV that will feature a redesigned remote control with a touch pad that will also serve as a game controller. In a departure from past years, Apple could also unveil new iPads along with a revamped iPad keyboard at the event. A “one more thing” moment could also be in the cards although Apple may have to call it something else if Swatch has anything to say about it.
