Huawei unveiled the Huawei Watch just days before Mobile World Congress kicked off. While we know that it will be offered in some twenty countries, including Canada, the company has yet to reveal specific availability and pricing details. In the meantime, it has taken to its community blog to highlight 12 Huawei Watch features that it wants everyone to know about. Why 12, you ask? That number was “inspired by the 12 hours on a classic watch face.”
Design features prominently in this list of 12 facts. Huawei calls attention to the timeless design that makes this “one of the first smartwatches that looks like a real watch, the use of cold-forged 316L stainless steel for the case along with a sapphire crystal face, “the choice of three case colors” (gold, silver, and black), a range of stainless steel and leather bands to choose from and over 40 customizable watch faces for the 1.4-inch AMOLED display.
More interesting is the claim that the Huawei Watch is “crafted like a real watch.” Each watch contains 130+ components with more than 160 assembly steps done by hand, another 260+ manufacturing steps and 650+ hours of quality testing. We’ll leave it to you to decide if this qualifies to be similar to the build processes used to manufacture hand-crafted traditional watches like the Roger W. Smith Series 2 watch.
Last on the list but perhaps most interesting is the Huawei Watch’s battery life details. Packing a 300mAh battery, Huawei promises that a single charge will last between 1.5 and 2 days “for typical use.”
All that is missing now are those availability and pricing details. Let’s hope that it won’t cost as much as some rumours have suggested.
