After being acquired by Google in 2012 for US$12.5 billion, Motorola was fairly quiet until it announced a new DROID lineup with Verizon Wireless in July 2013. Its resurgence followed with the Moto X in August. Since then, Motorola has remained in the news with the launch of the Moto G, the announcement of the Moto 360 smartwatch and rumours of upcoming products such as the Xplay phablet and at least one new DROID smartphone. New details have now emerged about this last one through sources in China.
According to a leakster “who has a very accurate track record when it comes to Motorola-related rumors” according to G for Games, the new Verizon DROID smartphone should launch sometime in the last quarter of the year. Like its recent predecessors, it will once again use a Kevlar fiber chassis. Its display will take up a larger portion of the front of the device, increasing its screen ratio beyond that of current DROID devices. Motorola will likely achieve this through a larger display, thinner bezels or both.
Past rumours have suggested that this new DROID smartphone could launch as the DROID Quantum. Today’s rumours make no mention of the name though. They also do not suggest that it will be a successor for the DROID Ultra.
