Pebble yesterday announced updates to its smartwatch firmware as well as both its Android and iOS apps. Android users will see the biggest changes with the addition of full notification support.
On the firmware side, the most exciting feature in Pebble Firmware 2.8 is the addition of full character support:
For Pebblers who receive notifications in the newly supported languages, special characters like “ß” and “Ż” will appear correctly, as opposed to showing up as “unknown character” boxes. Over 98% of Pebblers in the world can now fully receive messages and alerts in their native language.
To see it in action, simply text yourself the following message: ÑÔ møŕě bòxĕš fōř ėïġĥťý ŀæńģūåĝęş!
To update the firmware on your Pebble, open the Pebble app and select Support > Update Your Pebble if the the update does not begin automatically.
On the Android side, the new Pebble Android App version 2.1.0 is billed as “Better, Faster, Stronger.” Rewritten from the ground up, it promises to be “snappier, more reliable, and enjoyable.” The addition of full notification support which lets you send notifications to your Pebble from any app will also be a very welcome addition. You can also select whether to get all notifications, none or select for individual apps.
While Pebble iOS App 2.5.2 brings no major changes, it does come with bug fixes and stability improvements.
